Three Projects Stalled. One Reason Why. And the Platform Fixing It

India’s crane fleet is not short of capacity.

The shortage is visibility. Three recent heavy-lift transactions in India highlight a structural problem in how cranes are procured – and why projects stall even when the equipment exists in the market. All three jobs were executed through MYCRANE’s verified rental platform, with named contractors, confirmed cranes and documented outcomes.

The failure mode was different each time. The root cause was the same.

  1. CASE 1: Vijayawada – The Specification Changed On Site

A structural lift was already on the critical path when the lift plan was revised. The 350MT configuration in the programme was no longer sufficient to complete the pick safely. The error wasn’t found in planning. It was found on site, with schedule and cost at risk.

In the traditional market, the response is predictable: call the same three suppliers. If none have the replacement crane, the project waits while the search radius expands, with every new conversation starting from zero – no documentation on file, no confirmed availability, no clear pricing.

MYCRANE reassessed the revised load and sourced a 400MT crawler from Chandi Cranes, a verified owner in its network. With documentation already verified and availability confirmed, the crane was mobilised, the lift completed, and the programme held. A late-caught spec error is recoverable.

A slow market response is not.

CASE 2: Ambala – When Every Quote Breaks the Budget

For a 400MT crawler requirement in Ambala, contractor APCO went to market and received multiple quotes. Every single one exceeded the project budget to the point of threatening profitability. This wasn’t a supplier pricing problem. It was a market access problem.

A contractor working from an existing supplier list only sees that list. Verified, available fleet owners outside that list aren’t rejected – they’re simply never reached.

Through the platform, multiple verified owners were compared side-by-side with confirmed specs, documentation status and commercial terms in a single view – not across separate WhatsApp threads and phone calls.

The winning offer, fully compliant and documented, came from a supplier outside APCO’s original contacts. The result was approximately 30% saving on rental cost.Same crane. Same spec. Different market visibility.

CASE 3: The Crane Was Ready. The Operator Wasn’t.

A third project required a specific 350MT crawler model and an operator pre-approved to site requirements. One without the other was not a solution.

In the bilateral market, equipment data and operator qualification records don’t sit together. Contractors end up running two parallel searches, with no guarantee they converge on time, and no independent verification of the operator before mobilisation.

MYCRANE matched both requirements simultaneously from a single verified owner – crane model, site approval and operator qualification held in one searchable record.

This was not a capacity failure. It was a coordination failure – the right crane existed, the right operator existed, but the market had no mechanism to confirm both against the same job at the same time.

The Pattern

Three different states. Three different constraints. One common thread.

The bilateral market shows only the supply it can reach, not the supply that actually exists.

India is one of the world’s most active crane markets, with more than 100 paid rental transactions already completed through the MYCRANE platform in its first year of commercial operation in India – including clients such as L&T, Tata Projects, Linde and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel.

The equipment is in the market. The operator is in the market. The competitive price is in the market.

The challenge for rental buyers and project managers is no longer availability. It’s access.
